Moving Tip Monday: Buy All the Essentials

Moving Tip Monday: Buy All the Essentials Before you even think about packing, go out and purchase quality boxes, plenty of packing tape, labels and markers.  This way, you won’t have to make multiple trips to the store.  It’s also a good idea to buy a few extra markers and extra rolls of tape as some could get misplaced or lost in the shuffle of packing.

Moving Tip Monday: Schedule Pick Ups from Charities

Moving Tip Monday: Schedule Pick Ups from Charities
A few weeks prior to your move, contact local charities to schedule pick ups of large items and places you can donate other items you may be getting rid of.

Many charities will pick up furniture, electronics and even metals.  If you have smaller items, like clothing, tools, decor, or kitchen tools, look for thrift stores and donations bins you can drop these items off too.  When you make a donation, be sure to document what you donate and get a receipt if you can.  Many donations can be used for a tax deduction.

Moving Tip Monday: Create a Box of Bathroom Supplies

Moving Tip Monday: Create a Box of Bathroom Supplies
Pack a box of bathroom supplies you may use the day of the move to clean your former home and your new home.  You’ll likely need it when you’re moving, so put a box of handsoap, papertowels and TP aside to put in the bathroom in your new home!

This box will then be one of the last boxes packed and the first to be unpacked in your new home.

Moving Tip Monday: Service Your Car

Before moving, you should consider getting your car serviced and tuned up one week prior to the date of your move.  Even if you’re moving a shorter distance, your car will likely be driven quite a bit and may be loaded up.  Plus after your move to your new location, you’ll likely have a lot errands to run to change your address, stock your cabinets and purchase other supplies.  In addition, it may take some time for you to find a new mechanic so it’s one less thing to worry about once you move.

Get a tune up, oil change, top off all fluids and make sure your tires are full and in good condition.  There is nothing worse than packing up your car and breaking down on the way to a new home.
